This sub-section covers the city of Amsterdam where there is the greatest concentration of coffeeshops. For the rest of the Netherlands click here.
To keep the pages down to manageable sizes and to help in locating the shops, the list is divided into geographic zones based on postal districts. All Amsterdam postcodes are of the form '10xx AA' where 'xx' represents the postal district number used in the table and map above.
The ACD guide and map concentrate on the four zones that comprise the city centre (postal districts 11 - 19). That is, the area contained within the semicircular Singelgracht (not to be confused with Singel) canal and capped off by the Ij river. It's a compact centre, less than two miles across. Nevertheless, you'll find most of the coffeeshops and other tourist attractions here.
Outside of the Singelgracht are the modern residential districts. There are over 150 coffeeshops out here, mostly serving the local population. Few tourists (stoned or otherwise) wander anywhere near this far from the absolute centre anyway. If you should feel so inclined, however, the south is the most interesting section, having Vondel Park, the museum district and Albert Cuyp market. There are many hotels in the south too.© Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory: www.coffeeshopdirect.com | Contact: Lemming@coffeeshop.freeuk.com
